How to Become a Tattoo Artist
Everything you need to know about starting your journey — from beginner to certified professional.
Becoming a tattoo artist is more accessible than ever — but it still requires dedication, practice, and the right training. Whether you’re a complete beginner or already dabbling with designs, here’s a clear roadmap to help you go from curious to confident.
Step 1: Understand What Tattooing Really Involves
Tattooing is more than just art — it’s about safety, hygiene, skin types, equipment handling, and working with clients. Start by learning the theory so you know what to expect before touching a machine.
Step 2: Learn Tattooing Basics (Online or In Person)
A solid foundation is essential. Our courses teach you everything you need to know — from how to set up your station to lining, shading, and BBP hygiene. You can study online at your own pace or join a hands-on workshop.
Step 3: Practice, Practice, Practice
You’ll start by working on fake skin, learning how depth, speed, and pressure affect the outcome. Your goal is to build control and consistency before working on real skin.
Step 4: Build Your Portfolio
Studios and clients want to see what you can do. Start documenting your designs and practice pieces. Our training helps you create a professional portfolio that showcases your progress and style.
Step 5: Get Certified
Certification helps you get insured, gain credibility, and meet hygiene/legal requirements. Our courses include all the required modules and assessments to earn an internationally recognized certificate.
Step 6: Start Tattooing Real Clients
After certification, you’re ready to start working under supervision or in your own setup (depending on your country). We guide you through safe practices, consent forms, and aftercare instructions.
Step 7: Keep Learning
The best tattoo artists are always learning — experimenting with styles, attending workshops, and expanding their skills. Our advanced courses and community can support you throughout your career.
Who Can Become a Tattoo Artist?
You don’t need to be a master artist or have a degree. If you’re passionate, committed, and willing to learn — you can do this. Our students range from graphic designers to baristas, full-time moms, and young creatives.
